Shift: Action on Stigma: Promoting mental health, ending discrimination at work

3rd April 2007 at 10:38

The Action on Stigma initiative is for people with an interest in reducing the stigma and discrimination directed towards people in the workplace.

As part of Action on Stigma, the Government has developed six principles that will enable employers and organisations to reduce the incidence and impact of mental health problems. The principles outlined in the Action on Stigma are based upon existing Government policies and good practice initiatives.

Action on Stigma is a new initiative but is not the first to try and tackle the problem of discrimination in the area of employment. This project aims to add to the knowledge base and increase the number of organisations and individuals who are prepared to work together on this important agenda.

Action on Stigma has been produced to initiate discussion about how employers can be supported to adopt the type of principles outlined in the document. We are now collating responses we have received from employers and other interested parties, and this feedback will be used to shape the Action on Stigma initiative.

Although the official consultation period for Action on Stigma has now closed, we are still very interested to hear about what you are doing to reduce stigma and discrimination in the workplace; there is a lot of good practice out there and we want to help people to access that. Please email your comments to employment@csip.org.uk.
