OVERALL ASSESSMENT
from the Shift Review Panel
- An excellent on-line resource - free, comprehensive, providing information to line managers on how to support staff with a mental health problem. It has the potential to be useful on a very wide scale.
- The resource is interactive which encourages managers to consider what they would do in different situations, before providing best practice guidelines.
- Different scenarios illustrate how to manage absence and return to work, recruitment and dealing with a distressed employee, helping managers relate to the information.
- The content is evidence based, comprehensive and provides a really good balance of legal and regulatory information covers the topics using practical scenarios. At the end of each section there is an excellent summary which highlights the key points covered.
- The information is presented in step-by-step sections which are very easy to understand.
- There are other issues about mental health in the workplace which need addressing (for example, HSE management standards) and employers would need to look elsewhere for answers to these.
- The need to log-in to access this resource is frustrating and could be off-putting to anyone unused to accessing on-line learning. There may be concerns about receiving spam emails. There should be a clear explanation of the need to log-in and reassurance about how details will be used.
